Can't see your website?
Visit http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/
Then before you panic and call your web designer or ISP... try this (in Windows):
Start, Run, Cmd .. then type in the black box that opens: ipconfig /flushdns
This will clear the cache of old content.
The Internet is like the electric company - just because your power is out, doesn't mean everyone's is. A neighbor can still turn on a light even though you might not be able to. There are many things that can affect being able to see a website or changes made to it (most of which the designer has no control over). Included are:
- Internet connection down or has packet loss
- ISP is not clearing the cache
- Browser Hijackers (spyware) on your computer
- A server down somewhere between your Internet service provider and where the website is hosted
- Your temporary Internet files are showing "old" content
- Hosting service is down for periodic maintenance, has been hacked or other planned or unexpected outages (rare).
- Domain name server is down for maintenance or has been hacked. (rare)
- Your browser is corrupted or not functioning properly
- Domain name server is not pointed properly.

Google May Lose Page Rank Patent
Google climbed past many ineffective search engines when it arrived on the Internet. Its devotion to the most relevant possible solution for a given query quickly made it the standard choice for millions of people. They shifted their browsing habits from narrow small listings to the broader World Wide Web.
New criteria for restricting the scope of what the US Patent Office considers patent-worthy poses a threat to numerous software patents, including Google's famed PageRank.
Google's much-discussed PageRank technology holds a patent. Some have claimed software patents affect far too broad a scope of potential innovation, leading to lawsuits where a patent owner claims damages by multiple companies.
Those on the losing end of such suits end up paying for what they argue are obvious and non-original concepts. That could change with a shift in the way the USPTO looks at software patents .
A series of cases may remake the software industry, all the way to the top where Google and other companies reside.
Google's PageRank patent which is owned by Stanford University, appears to fail the first part of the test, as generating scores isn't a physical transformation. The second part proves troubling given recent decisions made by the USPTO in a couple of other cases, not only for PageRank but other Google patents too.
How does that affect us? Mainly if Google loses it's edge as the #1 search engine, we'll all be scrambling to be found on lesser and more obscure searches. There may be less innovation from the giant Google, but more from smaller companies. Who knows where this brave new world will take us? But page rank may no longer be an important factor in Google's Search Engine Rankings when this is over. |

If you have been exploring the Web for any length of time, then you have run across any number of Webcams in your travels. Webcams range from the silly to the serious -- a Webcam might point at a coffee pot or a space shuttle launch pad. There are business cams, personal cams, private cams, traffic cams... You name it and there's probably a Webcam pointed at it.
Have you ever considered setting up a Webcam for your home or business? There are lots of productive uses for Webcam on or off a website. Personal uses might be:
- You will be out of town and you want to keep an eye on your house.
- You'd like to be able to check on the baby sitter
- You'd like to know what your dog does in the back yard all day.
- Grandma can watch baby at naptime
For a business you could:
- Monitor employees and cash registers from the back room
- Watch a construction project remotely
- Monitor Yoga, Gymnastics, or Martial Arts classes
- Entice travelers to visit your vacation resort or tourist attraction.
- Share live events
- View horse stalls, pastures, arenas or zoos.
- Monitor childcare or pet care remotely.
- Observe, troubleshot and track project progress to assure compliance from contractors and crews.
- Pre-shopping cams that can tour displays, zoom in on item details, and consummate a sale online.
There's nothing like "I saw it on the webcam" to draw new site visitors!
Our recent puppy webcam was rated the #3 Earthcam Webcam in the world in June with over 24,000 views. Contact us for more information about getting a webcam on your website. |
